Medicaid provides health care to 1 in 5 Americans and is a vital part of our health system.
Millions of families across the country rely on Medicaid for access to quality care designed to work for everyday people. Medicaid pays for nearly half the births in the United States and covers nursing care for millions of older adults. Over 10 million people with disabilities rely on it for health care services and to live independently. And Medicaid guarantees that kids get regular health tests and treatment!
But Medicaid could be in trouble.
Even in the middle of a pandemic, the Trump administration is trying to make it harder for people to get Medicaid and easier to kick them off.
Oklahoma is asking permission from the Trump administration to make harmful (and illegal) changes to its Medicaid program. Oklahoma is also trying to make significant cuts to Medicaid spending and services through a new funding formula, called "per-capita cap."
Oklahoma is the first state to ask for this type of funding. Still, other states are interested, and the Trump administration has encouraged them to do it!
Tell the government why Medicaid is essential! When the government wants to make these sorts of changes to federal programs, they have to give the public time to weigh in. This time is called a "federal comment period," and all sorts of stuff is submitted; personal stories, scientific reports, ideas for advocates, statistics, etc.
The goal is to change the government's mind and stop the changes. But, if that doesn't work and the proposal is challenged in court, the judges will look at all the comments when making their decision. Advocates call it "building an administrative record."
No cuts to Medicaid in Oklahoma or anywhere!

Medicaid is more essential now than ever. We should be making it easier for people to get health care, not more difficult. Medicaid coverage leads to healthier people, stronger families, and more flourishing communities! The Oklahoma Medicaid Plan just won't work. Not for Oklahoma, not in other states.
